May 2 - Desolation Trail to SL Overlook (Millcreek Canyon)

Heading to Millcreek Canyon to hike the Desolation Trail again. I want to check on my potential Chocolate Lily.

Partly sunny and in the low 70s in the valley; low 60s in the canyon.

I see some Solomon's Seal popping up at the lower part of the trail and in various spots along the forested trail.

Not much has really changed since last time.

Glacier Lilies is still the dominant flower all the way up the trail. On the lower parts of the trail, the lilies are all but bloomed out but further up the trail, especially in the sections that were under snow last time, the lilies are just coming up or are about ready to bloom.

The Waterleaf are the next line in prevalence. Followed far behind by Spring Beauty and even further the Buttercups (though they are still blooming in mass in the same spot as 3 weeks ago). I find one YellowBell flower.

Lots of green leaves coming up though. Should look really pretty in a few weeks.

I one open area, I see a few Balsamroot plants.

Also a bunch of Groundsel that are about ready to bloom.

I look hard for the Chocolate Lily and don't see it. Hoping I just missed it but it was growing right next to the trail so it could have been stomped on.

Finally, the entire trail is free of snow. Still a bit of snow off trail in one section though.

The view was actually pretty clear today (not as hazy)

.

Nice after work hike.
