July 31 - Lehman Caves (Great Basin National Park)

Cloudy, rainy-looking morning in Ely this morning. But I really don't care if it does rain today as my only plans are to drive back to Great Basin National Park for a tour of the Lehman Caves.

Lehman Caves was discovered in 1885 by a rancher named Absalom Lehman. Although referred to a "Caves", it is a single cavern extending 1/4 long thru limestone and marble. The caves sit at the base of the Snake mountain range, it is said to be the most decorated cave in the region -- stalagmites, stalactites, draperies, straws, columns, cave popcorn, and the rare shield formations. I have my ticket to see for myself.

There is a 60 minute Lodge Tour and a 90 minute Grand Palace Tour. I could only get a ticket for the shorter Lodge Tour on Sunday morning.

Easy drive back to the Park this morning. It was very cloudy until I crossed Sacramento Pass (not far from the Park) and then it was a hazy sunshine.

Took a few more photos of some of the local artwork along the Park road.

The tour was awesome; a very quick 60 minutes.

Awesome day! And great ending to my first trip to Great Basin National Park!
